The method
What is the Bleaching@Home method?
The Bleaching@Home method uses custom-made, thin trays and a whitening gel that is applied at home overnight.
“@Home” simply means that the treatment is conveniently performed at home. It is planned and monitored in the dental office. Another difference lies in the concentration and application of the active ingredient: With at-home bleaching, the treatment is conveniently performed at home using custom-made trays following instructions from the dentist.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about bleaching
How much does teeth whitening cost in Vienna?
We’ll discuss the costs with you individually during a free initial consultation.
How long do the results last?
As a general guideline, this can last up to 3 years, depending on dietary and lifestyle habits.
What are the side effects or risks?
You may experience temporary tooth sensitivity or gum irritation, which usually subsides on its own. If you have more severe or persistent symptoms, please contact us.
Is teeth whitening suitable for sensitive teeth?
That depends on the individual’s specific condition. We assess in advance whether the method is appropriate and adjust the concentration and duration of use as needed.
Is teeth whitening harmful to your teeth?
When performed properly, teeth whitening is tailored to the individual’s specific condition. Temporary sensitivity and gum irritation may occur but usually subside on their own.
What preparation and follow-up care are necessary?
Before we begin, we’ll assess whether professional oral hygiene is recommended. You’ll receive detailed instructions tailored to the gel used for your at-home treatment.
Do crowns, fillings, or veneers also become lighter in color?
No, only the natural tooth structure is whitened.
How white will my teeth get?
That depends on the individual’s original hair color. The goal is a lighter, natural-looking white, not a harsh, unnatural white.
Can I whiten my teeth using home remedies?
This is not recommended. Home remedies such as baking soda, lemon, or activated charcoal remove only superficial stains at best, but can damage tooth enamel.
Can I get my teeth whitened after wearing braces?
Yes, as soon as the braces are removed and your teeth and gums have settled down. It’s best to have a professional dental cleaning beforehand.
Is teeth whitening possible during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
During pregnancy and while breastfeeding, we recommend postponing teeth whitening as a precaution, even though no harmful effects have been proven to date.
Why should teeth whitening be supervised by a dentist?
Before the whitening procedure, the dentist will check for cavities, leaky fillings, or exposed tooth necks. Otherwise, the gel could cause discomfort in these areas.
Good to know
Preparation & Aftercare
Professional oral hygiene beforehand
Before we begin, we’ll assess whether professional dental cleaning is recommended. Immediately before the whitening procedure, the surfaces of your teeth will be cleaned and polished as needed. During the procedure, please follow the specific instructions we provide for the whitening gel being used.
Natural teeth vs. dental replacements
Only the natural tooth structure is whitened—crowns, fillings, and veneers remain unchanged.
Safety & Tolerability
When performed properly, the whitening treatment is tailored to your individual needs. Temporary tooth sensitivity and gum irritation may occur but usually subside on their own. If you experience severe or persistent sensitivity, stop the treatment and contact us.
“White diet”
During the active phase (up to 14 days), avoid nicotine and strongly staining foods such as coffee, tea, cola, red wine, turmeric, curry, and dark balsamic vinegar.

Things to Know About Teeth Whitening
Content
Why do teeth become discolored?
Tooth discoloration can be broadly classified into external and internal changes. External (extrinsic) stains accumulate on the enamel, caused by substances such as coffee, tea, red wine, or nicotine. Internal (intrinsic) discoloration originates within the tooth itself, caused by factors such as aging, medications, or injuries.
How long does teeth whitening take, and how long do the results last?
Depending on the initial color and the agreed-upon treatment plan, the active treatment phase can last between 1 and 14 nights. As a general guideline, the results can last up to 3 years, depending on dietary and lifestyle habits.
How light the result turns out depends on the individual’s original hair color. The goal is a lighter, natural-looking white, not a harsh, unnatural white.
