Will I/my child get free braces?
All children and teenagers under 18 years of age with severe dental misalignment – Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) 4 or 5 – are eligible for free braces in Austria.
Are free braces really free?
Yes, treatment with free braces is free of charge for patients at contracted orthodontists, such as Prof. Jonke. All costs are covered by health insurance.
How long do braces need to be worn?
This is highly individual and depends on the type of misalignment. Generally, you should expect about 2 years. Follow-up appointments must be kept so that the treatment can be carried out as planned.
What happens if the dental misalignment is not severe enough?
Don’t worry, even in this case, we will find the right solution together – for example, aligners or fixed braces. Here too, health insurance companies cover part of the treatment costs.

What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the field of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of dental misalignments. The goal is not only a beautiful, straight smile but, above all, healthy function: straight teeth are easier to clean, relieve the temporomandibular joint, and prevent long-term tooth decay and gum problems.
At Prof. Jonke’s practice in Vienna, we treat patients of all ages – from children in their growth phase to adults who finally desire straight teeth.
Free Braces for Children & Teenagers
Since 2015, free braces have been available in Austria: For severe dental misalignment (IOTN level 4 or 5), health insurance covers 100% of the costs for fixed metal braces – for all children and teenagers whose treatment begins before their 18th birthday.

Aligners for Adults
Even as an adult, you don’t have to forgo straight teeth. With aligners (including Invisalign®), we correct misalignments with nearly invisible, removable trays – without conspicuous brackets. Ideal for anyone who values a discreet appearance in their professional and daily life.
Alternatively, we offer aesthetic fixed braces with tooth-colored brackets. We will determine the right method for you together in a personal consultation.
Process & Treatment Duration
Every treatment begins with a thorough examination and a digital 3D scan. Based on this, we create an individual treatment plan. Fixed braces are usually worn for 1.5 to 3 years; for aligner treatments, the duration varies depending on the initial findings.
