The Invisalign Method
The Invisalign method makes it possible to correct misaligned teeth discreetly and effectively. This is done by fitting transparent aligners—which are usually made of plastic—to the teeth. The aligners are removable and are replaced every two weeks. This allows you to see, step by step, how you’re getting closer to your dream of a perfect smile. Since you can remove the aligners while eating, exercising, and brushing your teeth, they’re easier to care for than traditional braces. But what treatment steps and procedures can you expect if your dentist recommends Invisalign?
1. Treatment Plan with 3D Model
Following a detailed consultation with Prof. Jonke, a presentation of the treatment plan at our practice, and a scan of your teeth using an intraoral scanner, a digital 3D model of your teeth will be created. This allows us to calculate the individual steps required to achieve the desired tooth alignment. Based on this 3D representation, Univ.-Prof. DDr. med. Erwin Jonke plans your treatment.
2. Your aligners are custom-made
Once you have approved the treatment plan, your aligners will be custom-made for you. The number of aligners produced depends on the severity and type of your misalignment. After about two weeks, you’ll receive your first set of custom-made aligners. When you pick them up, so-called attachments (adhesive dots) will be bonded to specific teeth; these help guide tooth movement and secure your aligners in place.
3. You wear each aligner for about two weeks
The aligners are customized step by step to fit your treatment plan. Depending on Prof. Jonke’s treatment plan, each set of aligners should be worn day and night for approximately two weeks (at least 22 hours per day). The aligners should only be removed for oral hygiene, eating, drinking, or special occasions. After two weeks, you can simply switch to the next set on your own. Your cooperation as a patient and adherence to the recommended wearing times are just as important for successful treatment with the Invisalign system as your regular follow-up appointments!
4. Enjoy your new smile
The duration of treatment naturally varies from case to case, but in most cases, treatment with the Invisalign method leads to the desired result—your radiant smile—within one to two years.
